El Bierzo
Castilla y León, made of nine provinces, is one of the largest regions in the Iberian Peninsula, and even of the European Community. Bembibre and Ponferrada are the closest cities to our village Pobladura de las Regueras.
The story of El Bierzo (León) dates back to prehistoric times and its strategic location, a step away from Galicia and Asturias, it has seen the settlement of several civilizations. The Romans found not only gold, but also natural resources with which to produce food and raw materials to distribute throughout their empire.
Agricultural activity marked the life of these valleys until the nineteenth century when mining absorbed it all. At present, mining is shrinking and the area is opening up to new developments.
The eastern part of the region is a rich territory, green, filled with water and life, fertile valleys and high mountains, waiting to be discovered and where each year you can find new routes and places full of charm .
The most emblematic peak of the area is named Catoute (2.112 m. ) and the landscape is watered by numerous springs and streams, a pleasure for mountaineers.
This area contains a huge wealth of natural resources, with many and varied reasons to stop by: tourism, tradition and nature are intertwined for our enjoyment. Customers of La Antigua Escuela are going to find good weather and a welcoming environment, optimal for activities and where every year is an occasion to discover new places and adventures.
